League-Leading Rams Take Two From WLU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team came out on the short end of two identical 6-1 scores here Sunday in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Shepherd.
Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (10-38, 3-23) put up a good fight against the league-leading Rams (27-12, 20-5) but couldn't capitalize on multiple scoring opportunities, leaving a total of 16 runners stranded on base in the afternoon twinbill.
The hosts led off the first game with back-to-back home runs and that proved to be more than enough run support for Kaitlyn Munda. The Shepherd ace improved to 18-4 on the season with a complete-game win.
Kaitlyn Higginbotham and Taylor Paladino each had a pair of singles for the Hilltoppers while Damia Mogielski singled home WLU's lone run in the top of the sixth.
The second game saw a similar script as Shepherd jumped out early with three runs in the bottom of the second. West Liberty answered with a single tally in the top of the fourth but the Rams tacked on two more in the bottom of the fourth and added another in the fifth to complete the scoring.
Madison Collett doubled home the lone WLU run and also added a single while Mogielski chipped in with a pair of base hits. Taylor Zeiger doubled for the visitors.
The Hilltoppers travel to Ohio County rival Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
