Lady Hilltoppers Split Twinbill With Urbana

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 URBANA, Ohio – The West Liberty University softball team split a Mountain East Conference doubleheader with Urbana here on Wednesday afternoon.
Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (8-26, 1-11) cruised to a 4-0 win in the opener with the Blue Knights (2-17, 1-8) claiming a 3-1 victory in the finale.
West Liberty pitcher Savanna Sieger was in the spotlight for the first game, carrying a one-hit shutout into the bottom of the seventh before Urbana mounted its only threat.
Back-to-back hits put runners on second and third with one out for the hosts but Sieger bore down to finish off the gem with a pair of infield popups. The Hilltopper sophomore struck out two and didn't walk a batter in the impressive outing.
Sieger also helped herself at the plate, driving in a run with a double and a single. Nicki Mihalik also doubled and singled for West Liberty while Damia Mogielski came through with a two-run base knock to highlight a three-run fifth inning. Taylor Paladino singled in WLU's other run.
In the second game, Urbana scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to erase a 1-0 Hilltopper lead and made those tallies stand up to salvage the split.
Kelsi Johnson, Paladino and Mihalik each had two singles for WLU with Paladino driving home the visitors' only run in the top of the second.
The Hilltoppers hit the road this weekend, beginning with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Concord on Saturday.
