WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team remained unbeaten in Mountain East Conference play on Saturday with a 9-0 shutout of Shepherd at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Coach
Sam McCullough's Hilltoppers (8-2, 3-0) haven't dropped a league match in the past two seasons and were never threatened on Saturday, losing a total of just four games to the Rams (5-6, 1-3) in sweeping the three doubles matches before rolling to six straight-set singles victories.
Santiago Gutierrez and
Andrew Ponder teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles before breezing to easy triumphs at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Baptiste Perrin and
Martin Moncayo pitched an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles before winning 22 of 24 games at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
Luke Flanagan joined
Matt Tully for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles before coasting to an easy win at No. 6 singles.
Pablo Cimorra picked up West Liberty's other point with a 6-1 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action on Wednesday when they host West Virginia State in a 3 p.m. match at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
