No. 2 Hilltoppers Storm Past Urbana

Box Score
WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The No. 2-ranked West Liberty University men's basketball team celebrated Senior Night in style here Thursday, shooting better than 63 percent from the floor in a 121-76 blowout of Urbana before another packed house at the ASRC.
It was the 10th straight win for Coach Jim Crutchfield's Hilltoppers (25-2, 19-2) and set up a rare No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown on Saturday when the Black and Gold host No. 1-ranked Wheeling Jesuit (27-1, 20-1) in a battle for the Mountain East Conference's regular-season championship, the top seed in next week's MEC Tournament and – in all likelihood – the No. 1 spot in the final national Top 25 of the season.
None of which registered on the Hilltoppers' radar screens Thursday night, at least not according to their coach.
"We've had some pretty good success over the years treating EVERY game as a big game," Crutchfield said, after seeing his all-time NCAA record career winning percentage (325-55, .855) tick up another point or so. "Our guys were ready to play Urbana tonight and I thought every single player on the team came out of the blocks focused on that."
That was bad news for the Blue Knights (2-24, 1-20), who had just snapped a 21-game losing streak with an overtime win at UVA-Wise on Saturday.
Urbana kept things close for the first few minutes but back-to-back 3-pointers by Devin Hoehn and Seger Bonifant sparked a 10-0 run that turned a 12-11 Urbana lead into a 21-12 Hilltopper advantage with 12:30 still to play before halftime.
West Liberty exploded for 45 points over the final 12 ½ minutes of the opening half to take an insurmountable 66-34 lead into the locker room and led by as many as 47 points in the second half.
The Hilltoppers shot a season-high 63.5 percent (40-of-63) from the floor and were nearly as deadly from behind the 3-point arc, swishing 14-of-26 (54 percent) of their long-range attempts.
Bonifant, who was honored prior to the game along with fellow senior Mike Lamberti, led all scorers with 27 points. Hoehn finished with 16 points in his first action since a Feb. 6 injury while freshmen Eric Meininger and Beau Justice chimed in with 15 points each.
Carlas Jackson topped Urbana with 24 points while Jahmere Howze and Mike Newton added 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Saturday's regular-season finale against Wheeling Jesuit is scheduled for a 4 p.m. tipoff at the ASRC.
