Hilltoppers Get 20th Win on Senior Night

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team celebrated Senior Night on Friday with an impressive 3-0 shutout of Notre Dame (Ohio) at the ASRC.
It was the 20th win of the season for Coach Kayla Mull's Hilltoppers (20-12, 8-5), who took over sole possession of fifth place in the Mountain East Conference standings.
West Liberty got the jump on the Falcons (15-14, 7-6) with a 25-21 win in the opening set and took control of the match by rolling to a 25-16 nod in the second set. The Black and Gold finished off the sweep with a 25-22 verdict in the third and final set.
Raimey Benson led the way with 11 kills and a pair of blocks while Caitlin Clarke had a big night with 7 kills, 9 digs, 2 service aces and a block. Amanda Leonard added 7 kills, 11 assists and a pair of blocks while Sydney Scherer, Olivia Baumhoer and Stephanie Leonard were each charted with 5 kills.
Scherer also led the team with a match-high 4 blocks while Kailee Cunningham led all players with 23 digs and 5 service aces. Miranda Garmenn – honored prior to the match as the team's lone senior – topped the charts with 21 assists.
The Hilltoppers return to the ASRC boards on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match against Urbana.
