WLU Volleyball Rolls Past Shepherd

Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team breezed to a 3-1 victory against ShepherdFriday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference match at the ASRC.
Coach Kayla Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers (14-10, 2-4) opened the match with back-to-back 25-21 wins before the Rams (7-13, 2-4) got on the board with a 25-21 nod of their own in the third set. West Liberty rebounded with a hard-fought 25-22 decision in the fourth set to close out the win.
Raimey Benson had a dozen kills and 2 service aces for the hosts while Sydney Scherer had a huge afternoon with 9 kills and a season-high 11 blocks at the net. The Leonard twins, Amanda and Stephanie, each contributed 9 kills with Miranda Garmenn and Katie Cornelius collecting 21 assists apiece. Kailee Cunningham led WLU with 16 digs while Garmenn came up with 9 to fall just short of a double-double.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action on Wednesday when they host nationally-ranked Wheeling Jesuit in a 7 p.m.match at the ASRC.
