Lady Hilltoppers Roll Past Fairmont State

Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team dropped the opening set but came roaring back with three straight wins here Tuesday night to hand Fairmont State only its second league loss of the season at Joe Retton Arena.
Coach Kayla Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers (17-11, 5-5) nearly pulled off a comeback win in the first set before the Falcons (14-9, 7-2) managed to hang on for a 25-23 decision but it was all West Liberty the rest of the way.
The Black and Gold squared the match with a 25-21 win in the second set before rolling to a 25-17 victory in the third set. The Hilltoppers led wire-to-wire in the fourth set, grabbing a quick 5-1 lead and coasting home with a 25-21 win.
Raimey Benson had a team-high 11 kills and added 7 blocks for the visitors while the Leonard sisters turned in another strong performance. Stephanie Leonard posted a triple-double with 10 kills, 10 blocks and 14 digs while twin sister Amanda Leonard had a double-double with 10 kills and 15 assists. Caitlin Clarke, Sydney Scherer and Olivia Baumhoer all had 5 kills each for WLU with Clarke adding 18 digs.
Kailee Cunningham had a team-high 22 digs while Miranda Garmenn led the Black and Gold with 22 assists.
The West Liberty women hit the road again on Saturday for a 4 p.m. match at Shepherd.
