Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The West Liberty University volleyball team rolled to its sixth straight win here Tuesday night, sweeping a non-conference match from Carlow University on the Celtics' home court.
Coach Kaya Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers (9-8) took control from the start with a 25-15 win in the opening set, held off a Carlow (11-10) rally for a 26-24 nod in the second set and closed things out with a 25-17 win in the final set.
Amanda Leonard just missed a triple-double with 13 kills, 18 assists and 9 digs while twin sister
Stephanie Leonard added 11 kills.
Michaela Hawkins and
Raimey Benson each chipped in with 7 kills.
Alexis Boyd had 5 kills and a dozen digs while
Sydney Scherer donated 5 kills and a match-high 5 blocks.
Miranda Garmenn led the
Black and Gold with 22 assists and
Courtney Pyeritz added to her school career record with 23 digs.
The West Liberty women face a major challenge when they return to Mountain East Conference action on Thursday. That's when the Hilltoppers make the short trek down Route 88 to challenge No. 7 Wheeling Jesuit in an 8 p.m. match at the McDonough Center.
The nationally-ranked Cardinals (14-3) are riding a 9-match winning streak of their own and come into Thursday's contest off a 3-0 sweep of previously-unbeaten and No. 4-ranked Ferris State (Mich.) on Saturday.
