Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team swept both of its matches here Saturday afternoon as the MEC/PSAC Crossover Tournament wrapped up its two-day run at the ASRC.
Coach Kayla Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers rolled to a 3-1 victory against Kutztown in their first match of the day before wrapping up the event with a 3-2 thriller against Slippery Rock.
In that first match, WLU jumped on Kutztown (2-7) quickly, taking the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-13. The Pennsylvania squad was able to eke out a 25-23 nod in the third set but WLU closed up shop with a 25-22 win.
The Rock (7-5) presented more of a challenge, opening the match with a 25-18 win before West Liberty bounced back to take the next two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-23. Slippery Rock forced a fifth set with a convincing 25-16 decision in the fourth set but the Hilltoppers took the match with a 15-13 nailbiter in the final set.
The Hilltoppers hit the road on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference match at Salem International.
