Box Score 4 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team picked up an impressive win over the weekend while competing in the Eckerd College Invitational.
Coach Kayla Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers (3-5) knocked off previously-unbeaten Seton Hill on Friday to provide the highlight of their two-day stay in the Sunshine State.
West Liberty dropped a 3-0 decision to Colorado Christian in Friday's tournament lid-lifter before bouncing back with a 3-2 nod against Seton Hill. Saturday's schedule saw the Black and Gold fall by identical 3-0 scores to North Carolina-Pembroke and host Eckerd. Full box scores were not available from tournament officials.
In Friday's opener, Colorado Christian (2-3) got off to a fast start in the opening set and the Hilltoppers couldn't quite get over the hump the rest of the way.
Amanda Leonard had 6 kills, 9 assists and 9 digs while
Stephanie Leonard also had 6 kills.
Courtney Pyeritz had 21 digs and
Miranda Garmenn added 11 assists.

Sydney Scherer and
Stephanie Leonard snapped a 15-15 tie in the fifth and deciding set,
clinching the Hilltoppers' marathon win against the previously-unbeaten Griffins (6-1).
Stephanie Leonard had a match-high 18 kills while
Amanda Leonard had a triple-double with 28 assists, 13 kills and 16 digs.
Alexis Boyd also impressed with 17 kills and 15 digs while Garmenn finished with 26 assists and Pyeritz led all players with 26 digs.
On Saturday, UNC-Pembroke (2-7) jumped out quickly and despite some lengthy rallies, West Liberty wasn't able to turn the momentum as the North Carolina squad rolled to a 25-19, 25-23, 25-15 sweep. Boyd paced WLU with 9 kills and 14 digs.
Amanda Leonard had 7 kills, 13 assists and a dozen digs while Garmenn finished with 17 assists and 11 digs. Pyeritz tied Boyd with a team-high 14 digs.
Host Eckerd (5-1) overpowered the Black and Gold in the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-11 but WLU didn't go quietly in the third set, pushing the Tritons into overtime before falling by a 26-24 count.
Amanda Leonard had 20 assists and 15 digs. Scherer and
Stephanie Leonard each had 7 kills and Pyeritz once more led the way with 20 digs.
The Lady Hilltoppers return to action on Tuesday night with a non-conference match at Pitt-Johnstown.
