Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team dropped both ends of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday.
Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (16-28, 7-16) came out on the short end of an 8-1 score in the opener and the Cardinals (17-17, 13-7) were able to pull out a 4-3 win in the finale. Jesuit scored four times in the bottom of the first and added four more in the fourth inning to coast to an easy win in the first game.
In the second game, West Liberty clawed back from a 3-0 deficit to knot the score at 3-3 on Kylee Ensign's solo homer with one out in the top of the seventh. Hilltopper hurler Paige Creamer got the first two outs in the bottom of the frame but Dana Achille launched a game-winning blast over the right field fence to give the hosts a walkoff win. West Liberty steps out of conference on Wednesday to host No. 10-ranked University of indianapolis in a 1 p.m.doubleheader at the WLU Softball Complex.
