Box Score URBANA, Ohio – Unbeaten and No. 3-ranked West Liberty shot 61 percent from the floor and poured in a season-high 133 points here Monday night to rout Urbana, 133-95, in Mountain East Conference men's basketball action at the Grimes Center.
The Blue Knights (1-4, 0-2) were able to hang with
Jim Crutchfield's Hilltoppers (5-0, 2-0) in the early going but a strong finish to the first half sent the Black and Gold into the locker room with a comfortable 61-46 lead and it was all West Liberty in the second half.
The Hilltoppers blistered the nets at a 69 percent clip after intermission (27-of-40) and pushed the lead as high as 40 points in the waning minutes as the non-starters picked up where the starters had left off.
Senior All-American
Seger Bonifant led all scorers with a season-high 37 points on 15-of-21 shooting from the floor while a pair of freshman guards posted season – and career – highs of their own.
David Dennis stuffed the stat sheet with 22 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds while
Beau Justice came up big off the bench, dropping in 15 of his 19 points – including the first three 3-pointers of his career – in the first half.
Junior guard
Devin Hoehn added a quiet 15 points while junior post
Zac Grossenbacher just missed a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds despite battling foul problems most of the night.
Carlas Jackson led five double-figure scorers for Urbana with 23 points.
West Liberty will be idle over the Thanksgiving holiday but returns to action on Dec. 1 when Salem International comes to town for a non-conference tilt. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the ASRC.
