Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team saw its season come to an end here Thursday afternoon with a hard-fought 3-1 loss to the University of Charleston in a Mountain East Conference Tournament quarterfinal at the McDonough Center.
Coach Kayla Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers (15-18) came into the match as the No. 6 seed but gave the third-seeded Golden Eagles (20-10) all they wanted in four tightly-played sets.
Charleston eked out a 25-21 win in the opening set only to see West Liberty bounce right back to even the match with a 25-21 nod in the second set.
The turning point came at the end of the third set. The Hilltoppers had battled back from an early deficit to pull within a point at 24-23 but a passing error gave the deciding point to UC and the Golden Eagles had a 2-1 lead.
The fourth set also went down to the wire but Charleston was able to hang on at the end, closing out the match with a 25-22 win.
