Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team steamrolled to a 3-0 victory against Shepherd Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at the ASRC.
Highlighting the win for Coach Kayla Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers (12-14, 5-5) was a significant milestone for WLU senior Courtney Pyeritz. The standout defensive specialist, who already holds the school's single-match, single-season and career digs record, posted the 2,000th dig of her career on Saturday. Pyeritz leads the MEC and ranks among the Top 20 nationally this season in total digs and digs per set.
West Liberty jumped on the Rams (10-13, 5-5) quickly with a 25-13 win in the opening set on Saturday and never looked back. The Hilltoppers wrapped things up with 25-20 and 25-23 wins in the final two sets of a match that took only 65 minutes to complete.
Amanda Leonard had a triple-double for the hosts with 10 kills, 21 assists and 11 digs while twin sister Stephanie Leonard also finished with 10 kills. Alexis Boyd just missed a double-double with 9 kills and 9 digs and Miranda Garmenn also came close with 16 assists and 9 digs. Pyeritz led all players with 19 digs. The Hilltoppers face a big test on Tuesday when they host No. 6-ranked Wheeling Jesuit in a 7 p.m. match at the ASRC.
