Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team battled Mountain East Conference power Fairmont State to the wire here Friday night before dropping a 3-2 decision in an MEC thriller at the ASRC.
Coach Kayla Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers (11-13, 4-5) stumbled out of the blocks as the Falcons (16-6, 8-1), whose only league loss came at the hands of nationally-ranked Wheeling Jesuit, rolled to 25-18 and 25-14 wins in the first two sets.
The hosts stayed alive with a 25-17 nod in the third set and knotted the match by gutting out a 25-21 verdict in the fourth set. In the fifth and deciding set, Fairmont reeled off four straight points to snap a 3-3 tie and never looked back in posting a 15-8 win.
West Liberty remains at home on Saturday to host Shepherd in a 1 p.m. match.
