Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team battled to the wire here Sunday before dropping a 4-3 verdict to Concord in a Mountain East Conference match at Anderson Field.
The host Mountain Lions (3-2, 2-1) snapped a 2-2 deadlock with a Chloe Barber goal in the 72nd minute and pushed the count to 4-2 with a goal by Emily Cole in the 85th minute.
Coach Barry Christmas' Hilltoppers (1-2-2, 1-1-1) closed the gap to 4-3 on an unassisted goal from Veronica Rothka in the 88th minute but couldn't come up with the equalizer in the waning minutes. Thanna Oddo had opened the scoring with an unassisted goal for West Liberty in the 19th minute but Kari Simon scored back-to-back goals in the 25th and 32nd minutes to stake Concord to a 2-1 halftime lead. Janice Johnson finished off an assist from Oddo to pull the Hilltoppers back even at 2-2 in the 55th minute only to see Barber and Cole put the game on ice for the Mountain Lions. Concord keeper Lacie Geisel was charted with 5 saves to get the win in net while WLU's Allie Warsaw made 6 saves in a losing cause. The West Liberty women return to action on Wednesday when they travel to South Euclid, Ohio to take on Notre Dame.
