Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team is off to a flying start in Mountain East Conference play after posting back-to-back home wins on the first weekend of conference play.
Coach Kayla Fetsko's Hilltoppers swept West Virginia State, 3-0, on Friday night before returning to the friendly confines of the ASRC on Saturday morning for a 3-1 win against the University of Charleston. West Liberty needed less than 90 minutes to take care of the Yellowjackets (2-7, 0-1) on Friday, winning by scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-17.
Nicole Sadecky, Sydney Scherer and Alexis Boyd led the Black and Gold to the convincing win. Sadecky led all players with 11 kills while adding a pair of service aces. Scherer had 9 kills and a match-high 7 blocks while Boyd also had 9 kills to go along with 2 blocks and 2 aces. Chelsea Byrge led all players with 30 assists while Courtney Pyeritz had 22 digs. West Liberty made short work of the Golden Eagles (1-10, 0-2) on Saturday morning, as well. The Hilltoppers took the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores before the Golden Eagles rallied to pull out a 26-24 nod in the third set. The hosts bounced back with a vengeance in the fourth set, leading wire-to-wire in a 25-15 nod.
Boyd had another big match with 17 kills and 15 digs while Sadecky also posted a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. Byrge stuffed the stat sheet with 7 kills, 34 assists and 11 digs while Pyeritz led all players with 31 digs.
West Liberty steps out of conference on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. home match against Salem International.
