Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Fairmont State crashed the West Liberty University softball team's Senior Day festivities on Saturday, sweeping a Mountain East Conference doubleheader by scores of 13-0 and 13-1 at the WLU Softball Complex.
The host Hilltoppers (10-38, 3-23) couldn't get anything going at the plate or in the circle as the Falcons (28-15, 16-10) scored 26 runs on 25 hits while holding West Liberty to just 5 hits on the day.
Fairmont wrapped things up quickly in the opener, batting around to score six runs in the top of the first and adding three more in the second frame en route to the five-inning "mercy rule" win. Two Falcon hurlers teamed up on a two-hit shutout.
Leading just 1-0 after three innings of the second game, the Falcons opened up a little breathing room with three runs in the top of the fourth. Alyssa Johnson homered to lead off the bottom of the fourth for the Hilltoppers but Fairmont added four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to complete the sweep.
West Liberty wraps up the regular season at home on Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Shepherd.
