Box Score 2 ATHENS, W.Va. – Host Concord pounded out 24 hits and scored 17 runs Thursday afternoon in sweeping a Mountain East Conference softball doubleheader from visiting West Liberty by scores of 7-4 and 10-5.
Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (8-35, 1-21) jumped out quickly in the opener, plating three runs in the top of the first and carrying a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth only to see the Mountain Lions (27-17, 11-11) explode for five hits and four runs to notch the come-from-behind win. Concord raced out to an 8-0 lead after two innings of the second game and a gallant Hilltopper comeback effort fell short as the hosts wrapped up the sweep.
Hanby had a double and two singles in a losing cause while Allyson Johnson chased home three runs with a home run and a double. Darnia Mogielski had two singles, Sumner chipped in with an RBI double and Jenn Young singled and drove home a run. West Liberty returns home to host Ohio County rival Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the WLU Softball Complex.
