Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The West Liberty University softball team played well Monday but couldn't generate enough offense in dropping both ends of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader to Charleston, 3-0 and 4-1, at the WLU Softball Complex.
Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (7-20, 0-10) were held to just three singles in the opener. The Golden Eagles (17-9, 5-3) turned three double plays to keep the hosts off the board while plating single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh frames to get the win.
In the second game, Alyssa Johnson stroked out three singles to lead a 5-hit West Liberty attack. Kalyn Hanby delivered a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the third but Charleston scored in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to complete the sweep.
The Lady Hilltoppers hit the road on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Glenville State.
