Box Score 1 | Box Score 2     CLERMONT, Fla. - The West Liberty University softball team picked up its fourth win in the past five games at the National Training Center Softball Complex on Monday by slugging their way to a pair of wins.
Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (4-4) outlasted Assumption, Mass., 15-14, in the first game of the day before pounding out a 13-8 victory against Queens, N.Y. West Liberty combined for 28 runs and 27 hits in the two games.
In the opener, WLU overcame a 6-2 deficit with an 11-run uprising in the bottom of the third but still had to hold off an Assumption (1-3) rally in order to prevail.
Every Hilltopper starter had at least one hit and eight different players drove in a run. Jennifer Young chased home three runs with a double and two singles, Maggie Starr collected two RBIs with a double and a pair of singles and Emily Harvey turned a double and a single into four RBIs. Paige Creamer worked the last six innings in the circle to pick up the win.
In the second game, West Liberty nursed a 9-8 lead into the seventh inning before a Jennifer Young grand slam put it out of reach for Queens (2-5). Creamer hurled the first 6.2 innings to earn her second win of the day and once again wasn't lacking for offensive support.
Stacy Sumner put WLU ahead to stay with a bases-loaded triple in the top of the second. Starr had another multi-hit game with a double and a single. Allyson Johnson chased home a run with a double and a single and Taylor Zeiger added a two-run single.
The Hilltoppers had two games scheduled for Tuesday, taking on Bentley (Mass.) at 9 a.m. before an 11 a.m. game against Winona State (Minn.).
