Box Score BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team saw a thrilling comeback fall just short here Friday night as West Virginia Wesleyan escaped with a 3-2 nod in a Mountain East Conference classic that stretched well past the 2-hour mark.
Coach Kayla Fetsko's Hilltoppers (6-13, 4-4) dug themselves into an early hole by dropping the first two sets but bounced back to win the third and fourth sets, forcing the match into a fifth and deciding set. The Bobcats (7-7, 6-3) scored the first six points of the tiebreaker but once more the Black and Gold battled back, forging a 13-13 tie on a Megan Lawless kill. Wesleyan's Erin Bond gave the hosts a 14-13 lead with a kill and then blocked a West Liberty return for the game-winner. Lawless finished with a rare triple-double for the Hilltoppers with 10 kills, 15 assists and 24 digs. Alexis Boyd had 16 kills, Sydney Scherer added a dozen kills and 5 blocks and Chelsea Byrge weighed in with 8 kills, 23 assists and 15 digs. Courtney Pyeritz added a match-high 32 digs in a losing cause. West Liberty returns to action Tuesday night with an 8 p.m. match at nationally-ranked Wheeling Jesuit.
