Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team highlighted the first day of the MEC/PSAC Crossover with an impressive 3-1 victory against previously-unbeaten Shippensburg (Pa.) at the Hilltoppers' Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex.
Making West Liberty's upset win even more surprising was the fact that Coach Kayla Fetsko's Hilltoppers (3-6) have been battling injuries throughout the early part of the season and came into the weekend tournament with four starters and key contributors on the sidelines.
West Liberty took the first game by a 25-20 score but the Red Raiders (6-1) bounced back with a 25-18 decision to square the match at one game each. The Hilltoppers took the upper hand with a 25-21 win in the third game and closed things out with a 25-22 verdict in the fourth and final game.
West Liberty had dropped its opening match of the day, coming up short in three tightly-played games against Edinboro by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-22.
Bertie paced WLU with 7 kills, an ace and a block while Sadecky added 6 kills, an ace, 2 blocks and 10 digs.
West Liberty wraps up the MEC/PSAC Crossover on Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against Slippery Rock and a 2 p.m. tilt with Kutztown.
