Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. –
Sara Emerich didn't allow an earned run and West Liberty broke out with a 15-hit barrage in pounding out an 8-2 victory against Seton Hill in the first game of a West Virginia Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the WLU Softball Complex.
The Griffins (5-9, 4-4) salvaged a split by rallying to a 7-5 win in the finale.
In the opener, Seton Hill jumped out quickly with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first but Emerich slammed the door for Coach
Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (8-22, 1-7) the rest of the way, blanking the Griffins on just two singles over the final six frames.
West Liberty got on the board with a single run in the second and took a 3-2 lead with two runs in the third before breaking the game open with a five-run uprising in the bottom of the fifth.
The shoe was on the other foot for the hosts in the second game as the Hilltoppers scored four times in the bottom of the first but couldn't make the runs hold up. Sumner doubled, singled and drove in a run while Jenn Young had a two-run double in a losing cause.
West Liberty heads south on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at the University of Charleston.
