Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty just missed sweeping a West Virginia Conference doubleheader from visiting Glenville State Tuesday afternoon at the WLU Softball Complex.
Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (14-30, 7-15) rallied to a 4-3 win in the opener only to see the Pioneers (24-12, 15-7) escape with a 2-1 win in the finale after pushing across the winning run in the top of the seventh.
Trailing 3-1 in the seventh inning of the first game, West Liberty started the winning rally by loading the bases with one out.
Leanna McMillen tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run single to center, moving the winning run to third base with one out. It didn't stay there long as Felicia Hulslander followed with an RBI single to left to give the hosts a walk-off win.
McMillen led WLU at the plate with three singles and three RBIs while Jenn Young weighed in with a pair of singles. Sara Emerich went the distance in the circle to pick up the win.
In the second game, Glenville State snapped a 1-1 tie with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh to salvage the split.
Janae Cockrell had two of West Liberty's three hits and drove in the Hilltoppers' only run with a second-inning single. Paula Creamer was the hard-luck loser in the circle, giving up just one earned run and seven singles in a complete-game effort.
The Hilltoppers head south on Saturday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Concord.
