BAYAMON, P.R. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team completed a sweep of its Puerto Rico tripWednesday afternoon with a 76-66 victory at Puerto Rico-Bayamon.

The Hilltoppers (5-5) were coming off an 87-51 rout of UPR-Rio Piedras on Tuesday in the first game of their Puerto Rico swing on Tuesday.
Coach Lynn Ullom's squad had a little tougher test on Wednesday as the Black and Gold was forced to come from behind in the second half to claim their second double-digit win in as many days on the tropical island.
"This was the perfect capper to a great trip," head coach Lynn Ullom said. "The weather's been terrific the whole time we've been down here. The girls practically lived at the beach but they did a great job of focusing when they were on the court yesterday and today."
The teams traded the lead several times in the early going before West Liberty reeled off 16 straight points to take its largest lead of the day, 25-10. The host Vaqueras (Cowgirls) refused to fold, taking advantage of a cold shooting stretch by WLU to outscore the visitors, 27-11, the rest of the way and take a 37-36 lead at the half.
The Hilltoppers came out strong in the second half, taking advantage of their dominance on the boards to go up 51-44 at the 15-minute mark and pushing the lead to 62-48 as the clock ticked past 10 minutes. UPR-Bayamon was able to get the lead under double-figures a couple of times down the stretch but never seriously threatened again.
Liz Flowers led a quartet of double-digit scorers for the Hilltoppers with 21 points while handing out 6 assists and grabbing 5 rebounds. Jenn Mohney had another strong game with 5 3-pointers and 17 points while Kiki Simpson collected her second straight double-double with 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Emily Bucon added 11 points and 6 rebounds in a strong performance off the bench.
The Cowgirls got a game-high 27 points from Madelyn Velazquez and forced WLU into 21 turnovers but that wasn't enough to counter West Liberty's whopping 50-30 edge off the glass.
"Outside of a little stretch in the first half today, I thought we actually played pretty well in both games," Ullom said. "The bottom line is that we're coming home with two wins, a lot of great memories and a little momentum for the second semester. You couldn't ask for anything more."
After heading home to spend the Christmas holidays with their families, the Hilltoppers return to action on Jan. 4with a home game against Concord. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the ASRC.
