Box Score 2 VIENNA, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Ohio Valley Wednesday afternoon, falling by scores of 16-1 and 7-6 in West Virginia Conference action at Jackson Park.
The Hilltoppers (8-35, 3-13) bounced back from a slow start in the opener with a strong performance in the second game and appeared on the verge of salvaging a split when they took a 4-3 lead into the sixth inning.
But with two out and a runner on in the bottom of the frame, the Fighting Scots (18-14, 8-6) strung together four straight singles to push four runs across the plate and take a 7-4 lead. West Liberty rallied with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh but couldn't come up with the equalizer.
Leanna McMillen, Stacey Sumner and
Jennifer Young all had RBI doubles for the Hilltoppers.
In the first game, Ohio Valley scored in every inning in rolling to the easy win. West Liberty was held to just four singles with
Sara Emerich's RBI base knock in the top of the second accounting for the Hilltoppers' lone run.
West Liberty travels to Elkins on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Davis & Elkins.
