Box Score 2 CALIFORNIA, Pa. – No. 25-ranked California (Pa.) used a pair of strong pitching performances to take a pair of games from West Liberty by scores of 5-1 and 4-0 in a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Lilley Field.
Hope Spancake carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning for the Vulcans (17-3) in the opener only to see the Hilltoppers (5-17) finally break through.
Leanna McMillen led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a single off the bat of
Felicia Hulslander. West Liberty avoided the shutout when
Kelsey Martin followed with a sacrifice fly.
The Hilltoppers got a little more production in the second game but were unable to string enough hits together to get on the board against California's Kaitlyn Schilling, who scattered six singles in a complete-game shutout.
Jennifer Young and Hulslander had two hits each for Coach
Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers.
West Liberty travels to Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday to open the WVIAC portion of its slate in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
