Box Score 2 HARTSVILLE, S.C. –
Becky Fortuna picked up her first complete-game win of the season here Thursday afternoon as the West Liberty University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Coker at the Cobras' Saleeby-Stokes Field.
Coker (13-15) got the bats rolling early in taking a 10-2 decision in the first game but Fortuna kept the Cobras in check during the second game and Coach
Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (3-15) walked off with a 4-2 win.
Fortuna scattered eight hits over her route-going performance with three strikeouts and two walks.
Stacey Sumney snapped a 1-1 tie when she led off the top of the fifth with a home run.
Leanna McMillen followed with a double and came home with the second run of the frame on a one-out double by
Jennifer Young.
Coker picked up a run in the bottom of the frame but Fortuna gave up just one more hit the rest of the way and the Hilltoppers tacked on an unearned insurance tally in the top of the seventh to wrap up the scoring.
Young and McMillen led West Liberty at the plate with each pounding out a double and a single.
Kelsey Martin chipped in with an RBI single.
In the opener, the Cobras jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings and never looked back.
Maggie Starr had two singles and an RBI to pace the Hilltoppers while Martin added an RBI single.
Felicia Hulslander doubled in a losing cause.
West Liberty will compete in the Salem (Va.) Invitational from Friday through Sunday.
