WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty women's volleyball team opened its home schedule in impressive fashion Tuesday night by rolling to a 3-1 victory against Ohio Valley University in a mutual West Virginia Conference lid-lifter.
Coach Brooke Turner's Hilltoppers won the opening game, 25-18, before the Fighting Scots bounced back to tie the match with a 25-23 win in Game Two. The Black and Gold regained the upper hand with a dominant 25-11 triumph in Game Three before closing out the match with a 25-21 verdict in Game Four.
Melissa Pierzchala led West Liberty with 9 kills and a match-high 23 digs while Emily Mellie added 8 kills and 5 blocks. Chelsea Byrge had 8 kills, 4 blocks and a match-high 19 assists while Heather Tolson stuffed the stat sheet with 19 assists, 11 digs, 5 kills, 3 aces and 2 blocks. Alexandra Kowalski chipped in with 8 kills and 10 digs while Anne Edwards donated 7 kills and 4 blocks and Haylee Strause had 19 digs.
The West Liberty women return to action Friday and Saturday when they travel to Pittsburgh to compete in the Point Park (Pa.) Invitational.
