INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team was swept by host West Virginia State here Thursday night in a West Virginia Conference match that took less than an hour to complete.
The Yellow Jackets (6-6, 2-1) broke out of a 5-5 tie in the opening game and ran away to a 25-11 victory. State followed that up with 25-12 and 25-15 wins to close out Coach Brooke Turner's Hilltoppers (4-7, 1-2).
Melissa Pierzchala and Emily Mellie each had 3 kills to pace West Liberty. Chelsea Byrge led the visitors with 5 assists while April Salyer added 7 digs.
The Hilltoppers will be idle this weekend but return to action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. match at Davis & Elkins.
