(PRINCETON, W.Va.)---Wheeling Jesuit junior Catie Halberstadt has been selected as the WVIAC Player of the Year by a vote of conference head coaches. Charleston's Katie Williams is the choice for Freshman of the Year, while Alderson-Broaddus' Carrie Bodkins was recognized by her peers as the WVIAC Coach of the Year.
Halberstadt, a 5-10 junior outside hitter, helped Wheeling Jesuit to a second place regular season WVIAC finish at 14-1. The Jackson Center, Ohio native ranks second in the league with 3.5 kills per set. The 2006 WVIAC Freshman of the Year also stands among the conference's best with 3.6 digs per set as WJU compiled a 25-9 overall record against one of the toughest schedules in the Atlantic Region.
Williams led a rebuilding Charleston squad with 6.8 assists per set. The 5-5 freshman setter also stood second on her squad with 2.56 digs per set. The Gettysburg, PA native contributed a .210 hitting percentage for the Golden Eagles.
Bodkins' Alderson-Broaddus squad enters the WVIAC Tournament with a nine-match win streak and an overall record of 24-12. The Battlers completed the league regular season with a 13-2 mark and a third place finish after being forecast for sixth in the preseason league coaches' poll. The former A-B two-sport standout now holds a 65-70 career record during four seasons at her alma mater.
League regular season champion West Virginia State dominates the ten-player All-WVIAC first team with four selections after rolling to a perfect 15-0 record in conference action. The Jackets are represented on the top squad by libero Kristen Hager, outside hitter Christina Wichrowski, middle blocker Amanda Luedtke, and setter Jennifer Paswaters.
