WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team's bats were quiet Thursday afternoon as the Hilltoppers managed just four singles in dropping a West Virginia Conference doubleheader to Alderson-Broaddus at the WLU Softball Complex.

The Battlers blanked West Liberty, 7-0, in the opener before racking up a 14-1 five-inning decision in the second game.

The visitors threw a little leather at the Hilltoppers (9-xx, 4-12) in the opener as Kat Powell hurled a complete-game 1-hit shutout without recording a single strikeout.  Kelsey Martin leadoff single in the second inning was all that kept Powell from throwing a no-hitter as West Liberty never got a runner past second base and hit only two balls out of the infield.

Alderson-Broaddus opened the second game with two runs in the top of the first.

Courtney Loe's RBI single put West Liberty on the board in the bottom of the first but the Battlers scored five runs in the second inning and added seven more in the third to put the game out of reach.

Katelyn Kumm and Leanna McMillen had the Hilltoppers' other base knocks.

West Liberty will try to get the bats going on Friday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at the University of Charleston.
