GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team dropped a pair of low-scoring games at Glenville on Sunday as the host Pioneers prevailed by scores of 1-0 and 4-1.

In the opener, Sara Emerich took the hard-luck loss in the circle for the Hilltoppers (9-28, 4-10). Emerich gave up only one run – a 2-out RBI single by Morgan Scarpellini in the bottom of the fourth – in a complete-game effort but that proved to be all the offense Glenville State (12-16, 8-4) needed.

Ally Southall blanked West Liberty on three singles – two by Kelsey Martin and the other by Felicia Hulslander – to win the classic pitchers' duel.

Both teams got the bats going a little bit in the second game but the Pioneers snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the third and the visitors couldn't claw their way back.

Katelyn Kumm had two singles and drove in West Liberty's only run of the day while Angela Johnson had a double. Hulslander, Maggie Starr, Leanna McMillen and Irene Fadul all had hits for the Hilltoppers.

The Hilltoppers will host Alderson-Broaddus in a makeup doubleheader Monday at 3 p.m. at the WLU Softball Complex.
