GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team dropped a pair of low-scoring games at Glenville on Sunday as the host Pioneers prevailed by scores of 1-0 and 4-1.
In the opener,
Sara Emerich took the hard-luck loss in the circle for the Hilltoppers (9-28, 4-10). Emerich gave up only one run – a 2-out RBI single by Morgan Scarpellini in the bottom of the fourth – in a complete-game effort but that proved to be all the offense Glenville State (12-16, 8-4) needed.
Both teams got the bats going a little bit in the second game but the Pioneers snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the third and the visitors couldn't claw their way back.
The Hilltoppers will host Alderson-Broaddus in a makeup doubleheader Monday at 3 p.m. at the WLU Softball Complex.
