MUFREESBORO, N.C. – The West Liberty University dropped a pair of games at Chowan University on Monday by scores of 3-1 and 11-3.
Sara Emerich was the hard-luck loser in the circle for the Hilltoppers (0-6) in the opener as she scattered 5 hits and didn't allow an earned run in a 7-inning complete game effort. Courtney Loe had the only extra-base hit of the game for either team, an RBI double in the top of the seventh.
The Hawks (10-10) jumped on West Liberty quickly in the second game, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the second inning and going on to close out an 8-run mercy rule verdict in five innings.
Sara Ashmead singled twice and drove in a run for the Hilltoppers while Kelsey Martin banged out a 2-run double in the top of the fifth.
West Liberty heads to Savannah, Ga. on Tuesday for an afternoon doubleheader against Savannah College of Art and Design.
