ELKINS, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team dropped a pair of one-run verdicts Saturday afternoon, falling by scores of 2-1 and 5-4 in a doubleheader at Davis & Elkins.

In the first game, the Hilltoppers broke up a no-hit bid by the Senators' Alanna Jones with sixth-inning singles by Maggie Starr and Felicia Hulslander. Starr scored on Hulslander's base knock to knot the score at 1-1.

Carissa Dunn's 2-out solo homer in the bottom of the sixth lifted Davis & Elkins to the win.

The second game turned into a 10-inning marathon after the Hilltoppers scored in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 3-3.

West Liberty scratched out a run in the top of the 8th but a pair of Hilltopper errors gave the hosts an unearned run in the bottom of the frame to keep the game going. The Senators won it with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the 10th.

Leanna McMillen pounded out a pair of doubles and Jamee Burke had two RBIs for West Liberty.

The Hilltoppers' home doubleheader against Alderson-Broaddus on Sunday was postponed due to weather. West Liberty is scheduled to host Point Park (Pa.) in a non-conference twinbill at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
