WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team got back on track here Saturday, sweeping a West Virginia Conference match from Concord in a rare Saturday morning encounter at the ASRC.
Coach Brooke Turner's Hilltoppers (9-16, 4-10) showed no ill effects from playing their second match in less than 24 hours, edging the Mountain Lions (14-16, 4-6) in a 25-23 nailbiter to get the morning off to a good start before finishing off the sweep with 25-18 and 25-20 wins.
Melissa Pierzchala led the way for the hosts with 11 kills and a pair of service aces. She received strong support on the front line from
Emily Mellie, who turned in 10 kills and a match-high 4 blocks.
Gabbie Davis and
Chelsea Byrge collected 21 and 17 assists, respectively, while
Jennifer Torrence led all players with 9 digs.
West Liberty steps out of conference on Wednesday to host NAIA power Point Park (Pa.). The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at the ASRC.
