GREENSBURG, Pa. – No. 1-ranked West Liberty continued to carve an unbeaten swath through the West Virginia Conference here Wednesday night, rolling to a 114-84 rout of Seton Hill at the McKenna Center.
The Hilltoppers (14-0, 10-0) never trailed, jetting out to a double-digit lead less than 5 minutes after the opening tip and continuing to build on that margin throughout the night.
Barry Shetzer scored 22 of his game-high 28 points in the first half to help the visitors take an insurmountable 67-38 lead into the locker room at intermission.
Head coach
Jim Crutchfield's starters had become spectators by the midway point of the second half but the lead still stretched as high as 35 points before the Griffins (8-10, 4-7) closed the gap slightly in the final seconds.
Shetzer's 28 points paced five double-figure scorers for West Liberty.
Jordan Fortney added 18 points and
Corey Pelle chipped in with 14 points and 7 assists.
Mark Shadowens came off the bench with 15 points while
Tim Hausfeld went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe and finished with 13 points.
Oliver Lewinson, a 6-9 Duquesne transfer, led Seton Hill with 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Hilltoppers shot a sizzling 56 percent (35-of-62) from the floor – which included a 54 percent (14-of-26) showing from behind the 3-point arc – and cashed in 30-of-33 free throws.
Seton Hill shot a respectable 52 percent (32-of-61) from the floor but made just 4-of-11 3-point attempts and was 16-of-20 from the charity stripe.
West Liberty – which has now won 34 consecutive regular-season games – closes out its longest road swing of the season Saturday afternoon with a 4 p.m. game at West Virginia Wesleyan.
