CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team made its presence felt on the All-West Virginia Conference honor roll, which was announced here Thursday prior to the start of the WVIAC Tournament at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex.
Junior outside hitter Melissa Pierzchala was a second-team All-WVIAC selection by the league coaches for the second time in her career while freshman outside hitter Rachel Zeigler was named to the WVIAC All-Freshman Team.
Zeigler ranked among the top 20 players in the conference with a .259 hitting percentage while Pierzchala was among the league's top 20 with 221 kills.
Coach Brooke Turner's rising West Liberty squad finished 9th in the WVIAC regular-season standings and won a first-round match at the WVIAC Tournament for the second straight season on Thursday morning, avenging an earlier loss to No. 8 seed Seton Hill with an impressive 3-0 win against the Griffins.
The Hilltoppers' season came to an end Thursday evening in a 3-0 quarterfinal loss to nationally-ranked Wheeling Jesuit. Senior Amie Riethmiller led West Liberty with 8 kills and 2 blocks while Anne Edwards added 7 kills and 3 blocks.
