Former West Liberty University wrestling standout Zach Brown returns for his second season as a graduate assistant coach with Coach Mitch Smith’s Hilltopper wrestling program.
A state champion wrestler at Oak Glen (W.Va.) High School, Brown was a 4-year standout for the Black and Gold.
The highlight of his West Liberty career came during his junior season when he was a national qualifier at 125 pounds and earned a fourth-place finish in the Super Region One tournament.
Brown was just as impressive in the classroom during his time on the hilltop. A rare 4-time member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s (NWCA) All-Academic Team, he was the 2016 male recipient of West Liberty’s prestigious Dr. Joseph. A. Bartell Memorial Scholarship.
The Bartell Scholarships are awarded annually to the male and female student-athletes who excel in academics, athletics and as a member of the campus community.
