WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's soccer team returns to the West Family Athletic Complex Sunday afternoon looking to bounce back from Wednesday's loss at Frostburg State when the Hilltoppers welcome Davis & Elkins for a Mountain East Conference matchup.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.

West Liberty enters Sunday's match at 1-4-1 overall and 1-3 in MEC play. The Hilltoppers opened conference play with a 2-0 victory at Wheeling on Sept. 13 before dropping a 5-0 decision at Frostburg State on Wednesday.

The trip to Frostburg was a difficult one for the Hilltoppers, who faced a sustained offensive attack from the Bobcats throughout the afternoon. Frostburg finished with a 27-4 advantage in shots, including a 13-2 edge in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Kaisa Vale kept West Liberty within striking distance early, making seven saves over the 90 minutes. The Hilltoppers also generated a promising stretch early in the second half, recording three shots and a corner kick in just over two minutes.

West Liberty's best offensive performance of the season came just three days earlier at Wheeling.

The Hilltoppers defeated the Cardinals 2-0 behind Kylie Collins, who scored both goals in a 90-second span. Collins' first goal came in the 17th minute off an assist from Corinne Westbrook, while Ana Conejo Perez assisted on the second.

Vale added six saves in the shutout, including a penalty-kick save late in the first half. West Liberty finished with a 16-14 advantage in shots and placed nine attempts on goal.

Collins' two goals account for all of West Liberty's goals through the first six matches. As a team, the Hilltoppers have scored twice while allowing 11 goals. West Liberty has placed 24 of its 38 shots on goal this season.

Davis & Elkins enters Sunday's match at 2-3-1 overall and 1-3 in MEC play after defeating Wheeling, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon at Nuttall Field.

The Senators opened the season with a 1-0 victory against Seton Hill and played Tiffin to a 1-1 draw before dropping three consecutive matches. Davis & Elkins snapped that skid Wednesday when Meghan Andersen scored the game's lone goal in the 77th minute, assisted by Ryleigh Karen.

The Senators were outshot 10-7 by Wheeling but limited the Cardinals to three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Gabriela Acevedo made three saves to record the shutout.

Andersen has now scored twice this season, while Davis & Elkins has allowed one goal in each of its last three matches.

Sunday's matchup gives the Hilltoppers an opportunity to get back on their home field and continue working their way through the North Division portion of the MEC schedule.
