WHEELING, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's soccer team will look to break into the win column Sunday when the Hilltoppers travel to Wheeling University for a 4 p.m. Mountain East Conference matchup at Bishop Schmitt Field.

West Liberty enters the contest at 0-3-1 overall and 0-2 in MEC play after dropping a 2-0 decision to Point Park on Wednesday. The Hilltoppers opened the season with a 1-0 loss at D'Youville, played Malone to a scoreless draw and fell 3-0 at Fairmont State before Wednesday's setback.

Despite the early results, West Liberty's defense has kept the Hilltoppers within striking distance. The Hilltoppers have allowed six goals through four matches, with senior goalkeeper Kaisa Vale playing all 360 minutes and recording 21 saves. West Liberty has also limited opponents to a .100 shooting percentage.

The Hilltoppers' biggest challenge has been generating offense. West Liberty has taken 18 shots through four matches, putting 13 on goal, but has yet to find the back of the net. The Hilltoppers have earned 20 corner kicks while holding opponents to 23.

West Liberty will face a Wheeling team that also enters Sunday's matchup looking for its first victory. The Cardinals are 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play following a 3-0 loss to Frostburg State on Wednesday. Wheeling previously fell to Walsh, Lake Erie and Point Park.

Wheeling has scored twice through its first four matches, with Jeanery Diaz accounting for both goals. The Cardinals have been outshot 90-22 and have allowed 14 goals, although goalkeeper Madison Reis-Elbara has made 30 saves while playing 270 minutes.

Sunday's meeting gives both teams an opportunity to turn a strong defensive effort into their first victory of the season.

West Liberty returns home Wednesday, Sept. 16, for a 5 p.m. matchup against Frostburg State.
