WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team dropped a midweek contest to Seton Hill, 22-5, on Tuesday afternoon at Kovalick Field.
The Griffins jumped out early with a two-run homer in the first inning, but West Liberty answered in the bottom half as Austin Wittreich drove in a run on a groundout to trim the deficit to 2-1.
Seton Hill added single runs in the third and two more in the fourth to build a 5-1 lead before the Hilltoppers responded with their best inning of the day. West Liberty plated three runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Hunter White and an RBI walk by Wyatt McClintock to cut the margin to 5-4.
The Griffins quickly regained control, scoring three runs in the fifth and adding three more in the sixth to extend their lead. Seton Hill broke the game open late, erupting for seven runs in the eighth inning and tacking on three more in the ninth.
West Liberty finished with seven hits on the day, led by White and Giacomo Dolce with two hits apiece. White drove in two runs, while Dolce added an RBI double. Braxton Billick also chipped in with a double as part of the Hilltoppers' offensive effort.
Aaron Flowers (0-1) took the loss on the mound for West Liberty, while Charles Thomas and Chandler Maurice provided relief innings.
Seton Hill totaled 18 hits and was paced by Brady McGuire, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBIs.
West Liberty will look to bounce back when they host MEC rival Fairmont State in a four-game weekend series.
