ELKINS, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team delivered an offensive explosion Saturday afternoon, sweeping Davis & Elkins in a doubleheader with commanding 12-2 and 13-5 victories.
The Hilltoppers (16-25) totaled 25 runs on 22 hits across the two games, using big innings and timely hitting to secure the road sweep.
Game 1: West Liberty 12, Davis & Elkins 2
West Liberty wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in the opening inning before breaking the game open with a seven-run second.
The Hilltoppers strung together a series of clutch hits in the second frame, highlighted by a two-run home run from Isabella McKee and RBI doubles from Caroline Woody and Shelby Harris. By the end of the inning, West Liberty had built an 8-0 advantage.
Davis & Elkins answered with two runs in the bottom half of the second, but the Hilltoppers quickly regained control. Jaden Conrad delivered a two-run double in the fifth, and McKee added her second home run of the game—another two-run shot—to extend the lead to 12-2.
McKee led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and four RBIs, while Conrad drove in three runs. Paytyn Tucker scored three times and added an RBI, and Harris chipped in with two hits and a run driven in.
In the circle, Kadence Pettit earned the win, tossing four innings and allowing just two runs while striking out two.
Game 2: West Liberty 13, Davis & Elkins 5
The Hilltoppers carried their momentum into game two, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Annaliese Davis delivered the big hit early with a two-run double to highlight the frame.
West Liberty added another run in the third before Davis & Elkins rallied for five runs in the bottom half to briefly take a 5-4 lead.
The Hilltoppers responded immediately.
Sara Simon delivered a two-run double in the fourth to put West Liberty back in front, and the offense exploded again in the fifth inning with a seven-run outburst to put the game out of reach.
Jillian Morr and Shelby Harris each drove in two runs during the rally, while Simon added another RBI single. The Hilltoppers capitalized on patience at the plate as well, drawing 10 walks in the game.
Davis led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Simon and Harris each drove in three runs. Morr added two RBIs, and Tucker scored three times while swiping two bases.
Davis earned the win in the circle, in relief of Tapman who went 2.1 innings.
Toppers return to action Wednesday when they visit Wheeling for a doubleheader.
