HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The West Liberty University men's tennis team opened its spring break trip Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 loss to Hardin-Simmons University at Hilton Head High School.
Hardin-Simmons secured the early advantage by winning two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point.
At No. 2 doubles, the Hilltoppers earned their lone doubles victory of the match as Ethan Shepard and Pablo Zubieta defeated Maddux Foster and Kayden Lengacher, 6-3. Hardin-Simmons picked up wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles to take the opening point.
In singles play, Hardin-Simmons controlled the match, winning all six courts to seal the team victory.
At No. 1 singles, Pablo Zubieta battled in the opening set before falling to Payne Smith, 7-5, 6-3. The Cowboys also earned straight-set wins at No. 2 through No. 6 singles to complete the sweep.
West Liberty will continue its spring break schedule in Hilton Head on Sunday morning, when the Hilltoppers face Gordon College at 8:30 a.m..
