Hilltoppers Take Series from Concord, Win Three of Four on Weekend

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team closed out a strong weekend at Kovalick Field on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader from Concord, 3-2 and 4-3, to win three of four games overall after splitting Saturday's set with Glenville State.

The Hilltoppers improved to 9-12 overall and 8-4 in Mountain East Conference play with the pair of wins.

Game 1: West Liberty 3, Concord 2

West Liberty used timely hitting and strong pitching to edge Concord in the opener.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Hilltoppers answered in the third inning when Hunter White delivered a clutch two-run double to score Giacomo Dolce and Lucas Marsh, giving West Liberty a 2-1 lead.

Concord tied the game in the fourth, but West Liberty regained the lead in the fifth when Evan Tice reached on a strikeout and capitalized on a Concord error to bring home the go-ahead run.

Seth Cover (3-1) earned the win, tossing 5.1 innings while allowing two runs. Garrett Comer shut the door with 1.2 scoreless innings to record the save.

Dolce, Marsh, White, Flowers, Wittreich, and Lucas Marsh each recorded hits in the balanced offensive effort.

Game 2: West Liberty 4, Concord 3

The Hilltoppers rallied from an early three-run deficit to complete the sweep in game two.

Concord jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three innings before West Liberty got on the board in the third on an RBI groundout by Brodee Latocha.

The decisive rally came in the fifth inning. Giacomo Dolce delivered a two-run double to tie the game, and Luke Marsh followed with an RBI single to give West Liberty a 4-3 advantage.

Mason Bille (1-2) picked up the win, working 6.1 innings and limiting the damage after the early innings. Andrew Benchich recorded the final two outs to earn the save.

Lucas Marsh led the offense with a two-hit performance and scored twice, while Dolce drove in two key runs in the comeback.
