HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The West Liberty University men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Georgetown College on Wednesday during spring break competition at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis.
Georgetown secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Leo Schirmer and Alex Stragier defeated Pablo Zubieta and Barney Cowan, 6-2, while Tom Dayer and Zakari Thompson earned a 6-3 victory over Stanley Zgurski and Ethan Shepard at the No. 2 spot.
West Liberty picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, where Ignacio Giurfa and Chris Burns posted a 6-4 victory against Rex Toft and Kernau Aranayo.
In singles play, Georgetown claimed victories across the lineup to secure the match.
At the top position, Leo Schirmer defeated Pablo Zubieta 6-1, 6-1, while Zakari Thompson earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ignacio Giurfa at No. 2. Tom Dayer followed with a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Ethan Shepard at No. 3.
At No. 4 singles, Alex Stragier topped Barney Cowan 6-2, 6-1, and Kernau Aranayo defeated Stanley Zgurski 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5. Luke Curry closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Chris Burns at No. 6.
West Liberty continues its spring break trip with a stop at Bluefield State Friday.
