HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The West Liberty University men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Lawrence Tech on Wednesday during spring break competition in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Lawrence Tech gained early momentum by sweeping the doubles matches to secure the opening point.

At No. 1 doubles, Carlos Patricio and Takuya King defeated Pablo Zubieta and Ethan Shepherd by a 6-0 score. The Blue Devils then clinched the doubles point with a pair of tight matches. Augustin Patte and Cael Guthrie edged Stanley Zgurski and Barney Cowan, 6-4, at No. 2, while Tyler Brunsell and Juan Escriba also earned a 6-4 victory over Ignacio Giurfa and Chris Burns at No. 3.

In singles play, Lawrence Tech secured victories across the lineup to close out the match.

At the top spot, Augustin Patte defeated Pablo Zubieta 6-4, 6-2, while Carlos Patricio earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ignacio Giurfa at No. 2. Takuya King followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Ethan Shepherd at No. 3.

The most competitive match of the day came at No. 4 singles, where Barney Cowan battled through a three-set contest. Cowan took the opening set in a tiebreak 7-6 (5) before Cael Guthrie rallied to win the second set 6-1 and the match tiebreak 10-7.

At No. 6 singles, Jack Minhinnett defeated Chris Burns 7-5, 6-0.

West Liberty will close its spring break trip in Hilton Head on Thursday against Georgetown College.
