West Liberty,W.Va. - West Liberty women's soccer standout Perla Bäckberg has been named Hilltopper of the Week after recording a hat trick in the team's 8-0 victory over Salem on Sunday at the West Family Athletic Complex.

The sophomore forward from Sweden was the centerpiece of the Hilltoppers' offensive explosion, scoring once in the first half and then striking twice within minutes of each other early in the second half. Bäckberg finished the day with three goals on eight shots, four of which were on target, showcasing her finishing ability and relentless attacking presence.

Her performance helped West Liberty to its highest scoring output of the season. Behind Bäckberg's hat trick, the Hilltoppers netted four goals in each half and held Salem to just one shot on goal, cruising to the 8-0 shutout.

Bäckberg and the Hilltoppers  will be back in action on Wednesday, when they travel to Charleston for a 4 p.m. MEC matchup with the Golden Eagles.
