Hilltoppers Drop Doubleheader To Saint Leo To Close Florida Trip


SAINT LEO, Fla. – West Liberty fell to Saint Leo in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader 10-2 in five innings.

Saint Leo struck early, with Sydney Cline putting the Lions on the board in the second inning with a solo home run. The hosts added four more runs in the third extending their lead to 5-0.

West Liberty responded in the fourth when Jillian Morr delivered a clutch two-run double to left-center, driving in Kassydi Harris and Mallory Rosnick to cut the deficit to 5-2. However, Saint Leo answered in a big way, plating five runs in the bottom half of the inning to push the Lions' lead to 10-2.

Ashlyn Tapman (0-3) took the loss for West Liberty, allowing five runs in three innings. 

West Liberty totaled five hits in the game, with Morr leading the way with two RBIs. 

 

Game 2 

West Liberty struggled to generate offense in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader, falling 7-0 to Saint Leo.

The Lions broke the game open in the fifth, capitalizing on a West Liberty error before back-to-back RBI hits to push the lead to 6-0. The Lions added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle, securing the final 7-0 margin.

West Liberty managed five hits in the contest, with Alayna Cook leading the way with a pair of singles. The Hilltoppers had opportunities but left eight runners stranded.

Madison Angus (0-4) took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs (four earned) over 4.2 innings, while Leah Alford pitched the final 1.1 innings in relief.

The Hilltoppers return home to travel to Salem for a doubleheader Saturday and Pittsburgh on Sunday to face Point Park in a doubleheader.
